At 1xINTERNET, we believe in providing opportunities with work placements and internships - inspiring learning and investing in future tech talent. Over the past two weeks, we had the pleasure of welcoming Philip, a school student, who joined us in our Frankfurt office for his work placement or Schulpraktikum as it is called in GermanThe feedback he gave about his time with us is what makes it all worthwhile.

“Before this internship I already knew I was interested in web design or software development in general but now I can confidently say that I want to be a frontend developer. Through seeing what is waiting for me and what my future could look like, I am motivated to work even harder in school and to also expand my knowledge outside of school and educate myself on all the different languages, programs, extensions, now knowing exactly what I need for a future in web development.”

Philip was assigned a mentor who took him through some training tracks in React and JavaScript and he also had the chance to connect with various team members, both in person and virtually, learning firsthand about project workflows and seeing how we communicate internally and across project teams. Beyond technical skills, Philip also experienced our company culture, which he described as one of the highlights of his placement:

“Seeing the culture of the company over Slack, but also in-person was interesting, it was very personal and felt more like a large group of friends, rather than a company. Also the coming together of so many different cultures from all over Europe was interesting, as it brought so many different perspectives and ideas to the company, which aided in shaping its friendly and open identity.”

Philip really enjoyed looking at some of the different tools and technologies we use in our projects. While he was already familiar with HTML and CSS, he was introduced to a whole new world of tools and methods that he can now continue to explore.

For our part, having a fresh, curious mind in the office was refreshing. His thoughtful questions and eagerness to learn remind us why mentoring young talent is so rewarding. His experience perfectly reflects why we are passionate about providing these opportunities for young people.

We’re proud to play a role in nurturing the next generation of tech talent. Hands-on experience is invaluable, and we love seeing students like Philip leave with new skills, fresh inspiration, and a clear vision for their future.
