What an amazing year it’s been for 1xINTERNET! 2023 holds particular significance because it marks our 10 year anniversary. Beyond celebrating the company birthday it has been an incredibly busy year of events, talks and growth.

We welcomed 14 new employees, attended more than 22 technology events, shared our expertise by presenting over 20 talks, and successfully launched over 14 new projects. We have actively contributed to Drupal, sponsored events and have strived to promote Drupal and support the Drupal community. We have worked hard and also enjoyed many great experiences together as a team.

A year of growth and celebration

We acknowledge that our team is our greatest strength. Our capacity to deliver innovative projects is rooted in the collective intelligence and passion of our team. Our growth is down to the extraordinary individuals who make up 1xINTERNET and who work hard to deliver the best technology solutions to our clients.

We work hard to foster a culture of collaboration, constantly striving to improve and provide a positive creative working environment for our employees. This year we have welcomed 14 new employees, as we expand and grow stronger. We have celebrated successes together this past year as a team, in our projects, with new clients, with existing clients and in our projects winning Splash awards.

Drupal, Drupal, Drupal

Drupal is the heartbeat of 1xINTERNET. Over the past year we have proudly sponsored many key Drupal events from DrupalDevDays in Vienna, DrupalCon in Lille, DrupalCamp Ruhr, DrupalCamp Allersee to DrupalCamp in Sevilla. Our involvement has spanned participation, sponsorship, presenting talks, and contributing to modules: both maintaining existing ones and introducing new ones. This year we launched our very own Drupal CMS installation which allows anyone to create and trial our CMS demo Try Drupal.

During the Drupal Global Contribution weekend we invited our employees to take a working day to contribute and as a result, our collective efforts contributed to 28% of the globally addressed issues over the course of the weekend. Being one of the leading contributors to Drupal in Europe, contribution forms an integral part of our DNA.

We also contributed to the prize fund of the PitchBurgh contest at DrupalCon Pittsburgh, an initiative to drive innovation in Drupal. As well as contributing we submitted a pitch ourselves, and although our pitch didn't win, our commitment to the idea led us to develop it independently. We subsequently introduced the API Search module to the Drupal community, which we've integrated into projects like Transgourmet and Senec. This innovation was showcased by Managing Director Christoph Brediert and Software Engineer Jose Nieves through talks at DrupalCon and DrupalDeveloperDays and you can read more about the API Search module.

Our CEO Baddy Breidert has been serving as Chair of the Board of the Drupal Association, that tenure ended this year as it can only be served for 2 consecutive terms but she will continue in her capacity as member of the Executive Committee and will of course continue to work to promote and advocate for Drupal.

One of the most exciting Drupal related events this year involved stepping out of the Drupal sphere to promote Drupal to a wider audience at WebSummit in Lisbon. Alongside partners FFW and Acquia, 1xINTERNET hosted a booth at WebSummit and our CEO Baddy Breidert gave a keynote address showcasing the power and potential of Drupal arousing a lot of interest from the audience.

Sponsorship

Sponsorship means a lot to us, it allows us to actively contribute to the events we believe in, making it possible to put on awesome knowledge sharing events. While we value our continuous support for the Drupal community, our sponsorship extends beyond Drupal to encompass diverse areas, including technology, women entrepreneurs, and sports. This commitment reflects our dedication to fostering growth and empowerment.

This year we supported the IT Tour Burgas, promoting Drupal and 1xINTERNET in an inspiring tech event for the Bulgarian technology community. Our Bulgarian developer Hristo Chonov is keen to encourage wider take up of Drupal and is working hard to make that a reality.

Empowering women in the tech industry is an important topic for us, advocating for equal opportunities and an inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives. Our CEO, Baddy Breidert, an Icelandic leader, is passionate about encouraging more women to participate and excel in the tech sector. We were one of the main sponsors of the Nordic Women in Tech event which celebrates women in technology.

We're committed to advocating for health initiatives and supporting local sports programs, both within our workplace and the broader community. During this past year we proudly sponsored the 'Carl von Weinberg Cup 2023' at the Polo Club Frankfurt, a prestigious three-day tournament uniting participants from across the globe in Germany.

At 1xINTERNET, we strongly believe in providing equal opportunities for everyone to flourish, regardless of their origin, language, religion, or physical abilities. This principle aligns with TuS Makkabi Frankfurt e.V.'s values, and we were honoured to sponsor their exceptional youth programs, which is outstanding in the Frankfurt region for their dedication to nurturing young talent.

1xTEN

It has been 10 years since the founding of 1xINTERNET. We celebrated our 10th birthday in Frankfurt, joined by family, friends, colleagues and clients. Over the past decade 1xINTERNET has embarked on an incredible journey of innovation and growth, a journey that has brought us to being one of Europe’s foremost digital agencies. As we reflected on this remarkable journey, we also looked to the future, big things are coming for 2024.

We looked back at the evolution of our logo, from the very start when our three founders worked together in a back room to the 80 employees we have become. We´ve built a lot of leading solutions and many of the clients we had when we first started are still with us. This really is something to celebrate, long and successful working relationships.

1xTEAM: Getting together as a team

As a fully remote company, we take every opportunity to get together as a team as often as we can. In 2023, we were lucky to have had numerous such occasions. Our annual 1xCAMP is a company wide meetup, and this year it took place in Conil de la Frontera, where we have an office base. It was a chance to get away from the routine of work, to strengthen our bonds as a team, in three days by the sea.

While those who live near our office bases in Conil, Reykjavik, Berlin and Frankfurt regularly get the chance to meet up for social gatherings, the camp is a great opportunity for those who aren't located near an office.

We have been lucky that this year has given us many opportunities to meet up in person. The entire team was invited to DrupalCon and forty five gathered for team building Drupal fun in Lille. At DrupalCamp Sevilla twenty five team members got together for the Spanish Drupal weekend. Being a bonus birthday year, we also all had the opportunity to meet up again for the spectacular 1xTEN party in Frankfurt.

There have also been many social meetups - bike rides, hikes, dinners and walks on the beach. There have been several meetups with clients, the Transgourmet team hosted a BBQ and invited the team of developers to join them, there was a BBQ party complete with a private tour of the Transgourmet warehouse and facilities. Eldum Rett in Iceland invited the developers for an in-person workshop and meetup. The BSB project team had a productive two-day workshop, collaborating with our team to brainstorm new features for their site. We also had the opportunity to meet up with the Jagermeister team to discuss future collaborations. These invaluable moments not only strengthened our working relationships but also allowed us to make real connections with those we work with on our project teams.

We´re looking forward to what 2024 brings!
